Just how widespread IS paedophilia?

The recent case at the high court in Edinburgh has left me deeply depressed. Sometimes it almost seems like there is an endless supply of paedophiles out there, ......and they must know the risks they are running. So I am interested in everyone's opinion- just how widespread do we think it is? - are there still thousands of them out there?
