What ever happened to playin for love of the game?

It seems like all athletes are worried about is money these day if they love the game as much as they say they do why do they demand so much money (Manny Ramirez) Why can't they just play for the love look at how much players used to make back in the day and now people who are good, only sign for so much where has sports gone?
